An absolute must for every visitor to do is to spend their day at Mossman Gorge, which is one of our guided travel packages that specialize in the Indigenous guided Dreamtime Walks, conducted by the local Indigenous people. Ngadiku (Nar-di-gul), meaning stories and legends from a long time ago in local Kuku Yalanji language, takes visitors in their Australia tours on a fascinating journey along private, easy graded tracks, visiting special places and culturally significant sites, past traditional bark shelters and over meandering cool rainforest streams. This adventure is big, bold, and waiting for you to embrace it!
The Daintree’s indigenous people live in the gorgeous and unique harmony with their natural environment as they invite guests to discover it with them. A guided rainforest walk with an indigenous guide demonstrates traditional use of plants for food and medicine while explaining the Dreamtime legends of the rainforest. How great and interesting is that? There’s more! The Dreamtime Gorge Walk takes visitors on a journey along gentle rainforest tracks, visiting traditional shelters and humpies. An indigenous guide welcomes guests to the country with a traditional ‘smoking ceremony’. You’ll find yourself easily immersing yourself in the aboriginal culture and history!
Local Aboriginal guides lead a tour of Kuku Yalanji country, which encompasses both traditional and modern-day legends of the land. Operator, Juan Walker, and his team share traditional knowledge and experiences with guests. You’ll be learning a lot as you explore this wonderful adventure with others! The Cultural Tour on the Daintree River’s southern side includes a guided rainforest walk, where you can find yourself learning about traditional hunting techniques, seasonal bush foods and medicine identification, while the sightseeing tour travels north, exploring Cape Tribulation, which includes a guided rainforest walk with an introduction to seasonal bush foods and medicines.
Another amazing feature of this fascinating tour is that guests are always welcomed with a traditional 'smoking' ceremony that cleanses and wards off bad spirits. You’ll walk away as a new person! Then, through the stunning rainforest and explore the traditional huts and humpies. Also, your experienced interpretive Indigenous guide demonstrates traditional plant use, identifies bush food sources, and provides an enchanting narrative of the rainforest as well as their special relationship with this unique tropical environment. A stop at 'the beach' is where your guide demonstrates traditions, like making bush soaps and ochre painting. Not only will you be learning and exploring a ton of concepts, you’ll feel like a part of the aboriginal family! Welcome!
At the end of the tour, enjoy traditional bush tea and damper. Tour ends at approximately 1:00 pm with hotel drops offs.
