The Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs (or vice versa), is a three day/two night 1,846 mile journey through the heart of Australia. From Darwin, through the lush tropics of the Top End abundant with bird and plant life, across the deep red earth of Central Australia, the magnificent Flinders Ranges and sand dunes of the south; you will experience the very essence of Australia.


The Ghan will transport you from one edge of the continent to the other in either direction, through the very center of Australia. The Ghan's timetable makes the most of the daylight hours, offering you unsurpassed view of the passing landscapes.

Each morning begins with a fresh panorama of changing landscapes with the red earth and cobalt blue skies taking on characters of its own at each changing hour.

The Ghan is fully inclusive of all touring and beverages. The Ghan departs Darwin on Wednesday, Alice Springs on Monday (northbound) and Thursday (southbound) and Adelaide on Sunday.

• For Gold Twin, a comfortable sleeper cabin featuring private en suite and upper and lower sleeping berths that convert to a three-seater lounge by day.
• For Gold Single, a compact sleeper cabin featuring a bed that converts to a seat by day, private vanity, with shared shower/toilet facilities located at the end of the carriage.
• In-cabin music channels, power outlets and journey audio commentary available.

The Platinum Club is an opulent, spacious and yet intimate premium lounge and restaurant exclusive to Platinum Service guests. Relax and select a cocktail from the extensive all-inclusive beverage list. Enjoy an intimate dinner or a large group celebration. Your dedicated lounge host will be on hand to ensure all of your needs are catered for. All regional cuisine available in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant is also served in the Platinum Club.

Guests can enjoy fine food and wine whilst travelling in a world-famous train with panoramic views across a vast, beautiful continent is a marvelous experience. Savor fully cooked breakfasts, two-course lunches and three-course dinners for two or share a four seat booth with friends. Restaurant-quality menus are freshly prepared by onboard chefs with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Other dietary requirements are catered for when advised at time of booking. Flexible reservation options with pre-booking available on train.

Outback Explorer Lounge
Gold Service guests can socialize with new and old friends in comfort and style in the Outback Explorer Lounge. During the day, pre-dinner, after a meal, or often late into the night, the Outback Explorer Lounge is the social epicenter of the train. Enjoy a wide range of all-inclusive beers, wines, base spirits and non-alcoholic beverages (barrista style coffee, variety of teas, juice, soft drinks and water). Premium spirits and cocktails are available for purchase. View the passing landscape and wildlife through windows on both sides of the Lounge.

 

The Ghan Off Train Excursions and Outback Experiences

Off Train Excursions
Katherine: Choose from either the Nitmiluk Gorge Cruise or the Nitmiluk First Gorge Rock Art Cruise. The Nitmiluk Gorge Cruise on the Katherine River is a relaxing discovery of one of the Northern Territory’s most monumental natural wonders. Learn more about the rich history and culture of the Katherine region through the fascinating interpretations of Indigenous rock art dating back 40,000 years on the Nitmiluk First Gorge Rock Art Cruise. From May to October an alternative excursion is offered, the Katherine Outback Experience showcasing the inner working life on an Australian cattle station. Upgrade your excursion (additional cost), with a helicopter flight or a scenic flight over Kakadu and Nitmiluk National Parks.

Alice Springs: A morning or afternoon in The Alice gives you a glimpse into the history of yesterday. You have three options: View the permanent waterhole at Simpsons Gap, visit the local landmarks of Alice Springs or take a front row seat to a spectacular bird show at the Desert Park. Upgrade options with additional costs in Alice Springs include Pyndan Camel Tracks, the Spirit of Mount Gillen Helicopter Flight or the sensational Alice Springs and Surrounds Fixed Wing Scenic flight.

Outback Experiences
Marla (northbound): Set foot in the remote reaches of South Australia to witness an unforgettable Outback sunrise for this morning stop. Enjoy a light breakfast and tea/coffee as you stretch your legs.

Manguri (southbound): Cast your eyes skyward for an amazing showcase of Outback stars when you disembark for this evening stop. Enjoy a nightcap served with premium chocolate by the light of an Outback bonfire. Guests can gain a full appreciation of the stunning night sky through stargazing sessions with the trained crew.
