Hawke’s Bay’s place in history is cemented with a devastating 7.8 earthquake in 1931. that reduced the cities of Napier and Hasting to rubble. Both were rebuilt in the styles of the time: Art Deco, Spanish Mission and Stripped Classical. Today, a tour of Napier’s city streets is a must do for any visitor to see some of the finest examples of 1930’s architecture in the world.

Locals and visitors alike love getting outdoors in Hawke’s Bay. Whether it be a walk up Te Mata Peak, an adrenaline-filled rafting trip down the Mohaka River, or perhaps a lazy day at Waimarama Beach, the diversity of our outdoor experiences means there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
