Three hours drive south of Darwin is one of the Northern Territory’s most spectacular attractions - Nitmiluk National Park. The country is rugged Outback with deep rainforests, rocky cliffs and escarpments that wave through the sprawling plains of cattle stations, National Parks and reserves. Katherine Gorge is made up of over thirteen gorges - a habitat to unique animals birds and the odd freshwater crocodile.
Katherine is the third-largest town in the Northern Territory and represents the crossroads of where the outback meets the tropics. Attractions around the town include the old railway station, the small Katherine Museum in the old airport terminal building, and the beautiful Springvale Homestead nearby.
The Northern Territory occupies about one sixth of Australia’s total land mass, with a population of about 200,000, and is known around the world for its iconic natural treasures, including the World-Heritage-listed national parks of Kakadu and Uluru-Kata Tjuta (Ayers Rock) and an ancient Aboriginal culture.
