Home port for the three Spirit of Tasmania, Devonport is scenically located where the wide Mersey River flows into Bass Strait. Every year, this friendly, cosmopolitan city welcomes many thousands of visitors to Tasmania who enjoy its range of restaurants and bistros, boutiques and galleries.
The city’s attractions include Tasmania’s only Science Museum, the fascinating Imaginarium, a place to stretch your sense of wonder and discover astonishing facts about nature, science and technology. On the Devonport Bluff is Tiagarra, a center for Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, with informative displays presenting the stories of the island’s first inhabitants and today’s Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Nearby are mysterious ancient rock carvings engraved in the Bluff’s sandstone rocks.
Devonport is a city which is proud of it maritime heritage and rich history which is presented in style at the Martime Museum and at Home Hill, family home of Joseph Lyons, the only Tasmanian-born Prime Minister.
